Boom Town Fair is a festival featuring mainly ska, dubstep, drum & bass, and reggae . This year’s edition (the fifth) took place just last weekend, from Thursday 8th till Sunday 11th of August.
Voted as one of the best UK festivals by The Guardian, the festival featured bands playing a wide variety of music, from The Parov Stelar Band to Foreign Beggars. The main attraction of the festival is surely the Arcadia Stage – a giant spider-shaped mechanical sound system that also breathes fire! Performing at the Arcadia this year were, among others, RAM duo Calyx and Teebee, Drum ‘n Bass Dj LTJ Bukem and obviously the town’s mayor, who is also a DJ.
The festival is created as an actual town, there were streets to get lost in, different city districts (did you stay at China Town or en el Barrio Loco?), various mini venues (from the bank to a drive-in cinema) and even an upper-class area, the Chelsea of Boomtown, best known as the Boomtique Village.
Boomtown had a specially dedicated area for children, the kidztown, where the little ones could learn more about animals at the Zoo 4 you, enjoy Yoga classes or attend a Kung fu workshop (yeah, for real).
Festival tickets were sold out and for the first time there was the option to donate 2£ at the time of purchase – the money will be given to different charities active in the local area.
So if you want to be sure you don’t miss out in 2014, keep an eye on their website or sign up for the newsletter!
