Pic Nic Suggestions

One of the best things about days getting longer and the weather getting warmer is enjoying the sun and being outside. Walk in the park, go for a run, take the car to the beach for a nice day… but then there is always need of food!

Pic nics are a great way to have a fun day out with friends, an alternative way to celebrate a birthday or why not – an alternative first date? You don’t need to be an expert cook to bring to the table (or actually, to the “pic nic cloth”) something yummy: pic nics are fast and easy, and this is the best thing about them! Here are a few pic nic ideas – from the simpler “ever greens” to more creative stuff. Add yout own specialty at the end of the list!

Crudites with hummus. Carrots, celery or peppers or a mix of them: cut them, put them in boxes, grab your favourite hummus at the super market and your healthy pic nic snack is ready.

Cheese and grapes. This is another usual one – why not try and prepare an actual salad instead of boring crackers? Cut some feta cheese, add green grapes, mint, salt, pepper and olive oil. At this point, don’t forget the wine!

Avocado spread. It might me tricky to make an actual guacamole – why not go for the easiest option? Simply smash a couple of avocadoes and add spices of your choice. Dip in your tortilla chips or spread it on some bread! Yum!

Potato salad. Another classic – boil or roast potatoes, add seasonings and at the end your creamy sauce. The secret is to leave the salad for a day or 2 – the potatoes will absorb the dressing even more!

Pasta salads. We all know how hard it is to cook the right amount of pasta – there is always some extra and you don’t know what to do with it. Is that simple – make a fresh pasta salad for the next day! Add feta, olives, tomatoes, tuna, ham cubes, corn, carrots, red peppers, parsley, spinach…. anything you fancy!

Loadsa fruit! A pic nic is not complete without a huge selection of fruits. Make a red fruits salad with all the berries you can find, add a banana for a special twist, don’t forget apples and pears, bring kiwis and pineapples, cut some mangoes… in other words, get creative!
