Visit the mini-site here

Pin-up is a unique 1950’s pop-up venue featuring four full-size ten pin bowling lanes, an American diner, cocktail bar and dancefloor. It launches in the UK on 15 September at Manchester’s vibrant Spinningfields district.

Evolving from a cult club night and now emerging as the world’s first pop-up bowling alley. Pin-up promises a host of exciting entertainment – from bowling to music, mouth watering food to irresistible cocktails, dancers, themed nights and regular collaborations with local promoters. The UK’s best DJ’s will also be dropping in to play and original Pin-up residents will be on hand throughout to ensure the music flows as easily as the cocktails and strikes.

Pin-up is open from Lunch till late, 7 days a week and kicks off with a bang with a weekend of brilliant music and good times on Friday 16th September – includeing Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor, while Manchester’s own El Diablo’s Social Club hosts the Saturday night with special guest Bill Brewster (of Low Life and DJ History fame) and Sunday showcases a takeover by one of Manchester’s premier nights, Bitch. All programmed to create the perfect soundtrack to a weekend of top-notch entertainment.

HISTORY

Pin-up was originally created by Phil Dawson in July 2006 when he launched a successful bi-monthly night of music, art and short film at the Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes in central London. Since its inception Pin-up has gained a reputation for its diverse music policy and numerous quirky add-ons including showcasing award winning short films with directors’ Q&A’s, roaming magicians, very amateur dance troops and screen-printing workshops by internationally-renowned illustrators.

To date, Pin-up has attracted DJs and bands including big names such as Andrew Weatherall, Justin Robertson, Rob da Bank, Sean Rowley (Guilty Pleasures), Tom Middleton, The Unabombers, Zero 7, Kid Carpet, Crazy P, Spektrum and many more.

As Phil Dawson explains: “Pin-up has always been about providing a place for friends to get together, mess around and leave with memorable experiences. Bowling undoubtedly plays a huge part, but there’s something about having loads of things to do under one roof that gets people excited. And the fact that it’s temporary means that they make the most of it while it’s there.

It’s always been a dream of mine to take Pin-up on the road and I’m really excited to see it finally happen. To be able to combine my love of music, diners and bowling is just amazing.“

Phil has joined forces with event and pop up experts Peppermint Events to bring this to life in Manchester and there are big plans for Pinup to pop-up at various festivals and other spaces around the country in 2012.

So join the Pin-up family on our adventures as we score strikes in the pop-up revolution!

KEY INFORMATION ABOUT POP-UP PIN-UP SET UP

Working closely with internationally renowned staging and rigging companies Prolyte and Rigging Services and bowling experts Switch / Bowling International, Pin-up has developed its unique portable bowling system.

Pin-up consists of 4 distinct elements. Each element has been designed as a stylish standalone environment that seamlessly integrates into, and enhances the whole.

Bowling: The bespoke four full-size ten pin bowling lanes accommodate up to 28 bowlers per hour and feature precision levelling to ensure a true bowling experience in any location, on any terrain.

Diner: The diner seats 100 patrons, in a mix of intimate booths and tables, and offers a simple but mouth watering menu that includes burgers, fries, hot dogs, salads, desserts and of course ice cream. Coffees and milk shakes (with or without alcohol) are also available.

Bar: The bar serves a range of delicious cocktails and ice-cold beer – the perfect accompaniments to the other activities.

Music: The music policy is eclectic – if it has a groove it gets played. An elevated DJ booth and a stage for bands or performers set the scene but the music will be present in all areas.

While the Manchester Sessions see Pin-up situated in a marquee its modular design allows it to pop-up literally anywhere – both externally and internally.

SPINNINGFIELDS

Spinningfields combines world-class architecture and contemporary public space, with a vitality that comes from its exciting mix of offices, retail, restaurants, bars and living space.

The award winning scheme hosts some of Manchester’s biggest calendar events, including outdoor summer cinema Screenfields, in association with Stella Artois, and Manchester’s Christmas ice rink.

With a total investment of £1.5bn, Spinningfields comprises 427,450 sq m (4,600,000 sq ft) of mixed-use development in the heart of the city centre. www.twitter.com/spinningfields www.facebook.com/Spinningfields

As the summer nights start drawing in, Pin-up will provide people with the perfect pick-me-up and something a little different to do. Pin-up is an exciting concept and will add to the diverse offering already in place at Spinningfields.”
